We are working with Falmouth and Penryn Welcome Refugees to bring you award-winning film screening of Fremont

A moving and hilarious comedy-drama starring Anaita Wali Zadaand The Bear’s Emmy award-winning Jeremy Allen White. Donya, a young Afghan who moved to Fremont, California after serving as a translator for
the American army, spends her days working at a fortune cookie factory and her nights wide awake battling between her desire to rebuild her life and the overbearing guilt she carries within. In a bid to connect with the world, she sends an unconventional message through a fortune cookie.

Syrian Feast from Iman’s Syrian Bakery

Syrian Feast from Iman’s Syrian Bakery, vegan  and mostly gluten free. Iman and her family have resettled in Falmouth after leaving Syria. Her food is  made using recipes handed down within her family and she  loves to introduce people to  traditional Arab cooking and flavours.

 

Vegetable rice dish consisting of rice, vegetables, peas, carrots, onions, fried almonds on top, and some sweet Arabic spices.

 

Tabbouleh made with lots of parsley, lettuce, a little tomato, cucumber, lemon, oil, and quinoa as an alternative to bulgur to suit vegetarians.

 

Falafel made from chickpeas, garlic, parsley, *sesame,* and sodium bicarbonate

 

Baklava is a dairy-free, plant-based pastry filled with walnuts or pistachios, margarine, and syrup.

 

Hummus contains tahini, boiled chickpeas, and lemon.

 

Lentil soup with lemon and garlic.

Falmouth’s Refugee Week Celebration 2025

Through a programme of arts & culture, sports and educational activities alongside exciting media and creative campaigns, Refugee Week brings people from different backgrounds to connect beyond labels, as well as foster a deeper understanding of why people are displaced, and the challenges people face when seeking sanctuary.
