Gala - Typist Artist Pirate King Screening with Q&A
BAFTA-nominated writer-director, known for her startling originality and versatility, has an impressive filmography that showcases her unique storytelling abilities. Her notable feature films include Out of Blue (2018), featuring Patricia Clarkson; The Falling (2014), starring Florence Pugh, Maisie Williams and Greta Scacchi; Dreams of a Life (2011) and The Alcohol Years (2000)
Morley will discuss the latest feature film, Typist Artist Pirate King (2022), which explores the fascinating real-life story of artist Audrey Amiss., staring Monica Dolan, Kelly Macdonald, Gina McKee and Jane Campion as executive producer, Typist Artist Pirate King will have its Cornish Premiere at the Cornwall Film Festival.

Jeanie Finlay is one of Britain’s most distinctive documentary makers. She creates award-winning work for cinema and television, telling intimate stories to international audiences. She has made films for HBO, IFC, BBC as well as four commissions for the acclaimed BBC Storyville strand, including BIFA-nominated The Great Hip Hop Hoax and BIFA-winning Orion: The Man Who Would Be King

Finlay's films are all made with the same steel and heart, sharing an empathetic approach to bringing overlooked and untold stories to the screen. She will talk about her latest film Your Fat Friend.

In this introduction to Powell and Pressburger’s cult classic, Judith Noble’s new research uncovers the fascinating mix of occult and mystical philosophies and references from contemporary art, including the work of Paul Nash, that found their way into the film.

My So-Called Selfish Life is a new documentary about one of our greatest social taboos: choosing not to become a mother.
In partnership with 99p Films Presents and the University of Exeter, we are bringing audiences together for this entertaining, inspiring, and thought-provoking film to reveal the diverse lives of people who have said no to having children, together with food, and the film we will discuss what it means to you in a friendly and supportive group.
