The Taste of Things (The Pot-au-Feu) | Dir Anh Hung Tran | 2023 | 2h 10 mins | France | Historical Drama/ Romance (French with English Subtitles) | 12A
Juliette Binoche and Benoît Magimel star in Vietnamese-French director Tran Anh Hung’s culinary historical drama. The braised beef dish of the film’s title should alert you to the sensory delights delivered by the Cannes Winner for Best Director. Eugenie (Binoche) is a cook hired by gourmet Dodin Bouffant (Magimel), and their harmonious, loving relationship is irreducible to employer-employee. Unsurprisingly, every meal is a work of art shown in long takes and close-ups. In The Pot Au Feu, cooking is an art form, and cinema is a slave to that art form.
"A highly watchable Aga saga" - Damon Wise, Deadline.
“Food is a gift of love here – and romance courses through this delightful film.” Time Out
"One of the breakout hits at the Cannes Film Festival and French Oscar Hopeful" Variety
