About
Mor Media is working with Photoworks and Historic England to invite you to look at the high street as never before. Together we are asking you to uncover the stories behind the shopfronts and post your own photographs on Instagram using #PicturingHighStreets. Your photos will contribute to an unofficial photographic archive of the English high street; charting and celebrating the history and experiences of the people and places that make up an often-overlooked fixture in all our lives.
The most evocative photographs will be featured on the Picturing High Streets Instagram channel. A selection of photographs submitted before 6 December 2022 will be displayed in a national outdoor exhibition opening in March 2023 filling advertising space, outdoor exhibition panels and shop windows on high streets across England. These photographs – alongside a selection of others submitted from January 2023 onwards – will also enter the Historic England Archive, the nation’s archive for England’s historic buildings, archaeology and social history.
We are offering two workshops at one on the 5th Nov and 26thNovember in Penzance. You can do just one, or both if you like. The first workshop on the 5th Nov will be working to the Picturing High Street theme of High Street Hang Outs and the second on the 26th Nov will investigate Hidden Histories. Bring your camera (anything from a smartphone, tablet up to a DSLR) and join tutor Annie Bungeroth who will guide you in the art of street photography. Annie is a photographer and filmmaker based in West Penwith. Annie is a very experienced trainer running photography workshops around the globe from community to university level. Check out her website www.anniebungeroth.com
The work submitted for accreditation will also be eligible to be submitted for selection into an anthology of writing and photography from all our ESF creative workshops. We will be publishing this anthology online and hopefully as a printed book.
If you complete the workshop task sheet and submit your work we will also put it through OCN’s moderation process so that you can gain a Level 2 unit accreditation for the workshop. This is not a full course certification, but it is a recognized qualification and might be useful for your CV or CPD if you are in work.
N.B. We will be walking around Penzance, so please bring suitable clothing depending on the weather. We do not provide lunch but you will have time in the session to get lunch in Penzance or you can eat your own lunch at the venue.
