The Eternal Daughter | Dir Joanna Hogg | 2022 | 1h 36 min | United Kingdom | Mystery / Drama | English | 12A | Relaxed Screening

Tilda Swinton wows in her double role as mother and daughter in Joanna Hogg's ghostly follow-up to The Souvenir: Part II. Swinton not only takes on the role of now middle-aged filmmaker Julie - a part originated by her real-life daughter, Honour Swinton Byrne - but also reprises the role of Julie's mother, Rosalind. The pair return to a former family home, which has since been converted into a hotel, in order to celebrate Rosalind's birthday - and also for Julie to work on her film. However, tensions eventually come to a head as a result of Julie and Rosalind's irreconcilable differences, as well as disturbances from the tragedies of Rosalind's past.

'a keenly discerning movie about the relationship of mother and daughter, who are bound together by a fierce love but kept apart by unbridgeable differences of character and of experience.' - The New Yorker

'The Eternal Daughter is a serious, gentle moment of self-revelation for Joanna Hogg.' - The Guardian
